Mark brings a lifetime of death-care experience to helping families create personal, meaningful memorials.
Mark’s connection to death care began at age nine, when he tagged along with his older brother at Carson Funeral Home in Dayton, Iowa. Those early experiences showed him both the importance of a funeral director’s work and the comfort families need.
After studying at the University of Iowa and Northwest Missouri State, Mark returned to the profession as eastern Iowa sales representative for Aurora Casket. His career later took him to New York with Tributes.com and Selected Independent Funeral Homes, where he learned from funeral professionals across the country and around the world.
In 2020, Mark and his wife, Kitty, co-founded The Healing Obituary, an obituary-writing seminar for funeral home staffs and other groups. The work supports his larger mission: helping people understand and use every tool available for personal memorialization.
After 15 years in New York’s Hudson Valley, Mark is glad to be home in Iowa City. He is active in the Iowa City Noon Rotary Club and Iowa City Elks and enjoys golf, live music, movies and local restaurants.
